My Good Friend Jen Hatmaker

Jen and I have have been best friends since, well never really….  However, since I having called her that on my blog review of her book INTERRUPTED it has caused a bit of a stir in my family.  Ya see, my friend also has a little TV program that started up in August: My Big Family Reno on HGTV.  As we sat down to watch the first show my husband asked if he had ever met my friend.  My daughter asks me how Jen is doing and if I am enjoying reading her new book, she wants to know if it reminds me of my good friend Jen!

I don’t have a problem with having an imaginary friend who is actually alive and here is why.

She’s got what I need.

This is why I read her blogs, this is why I buy her books, this is why I cyber stalk her…because Jen Hatmaker has uncovered something that I need right now in my life.

You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone. 3 You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. 2 Corinthians 3:2-3

Jen’s life and writing and Christ in her is why I watch, read and obsess over her.  Its not an idolatry thing, although she is does have cool accessories which I could buy here at Noonday, but it’s a “Hey that person has received something of importance from God, a new revelation, a holy passion and I need a little of what she has” type of thing.  It biblical:

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

I actually HOPE that this might be WHY you read my blog, whoever you are (mom, aunt and friend).  I trust that through the comfort the Lord has given me I can comfort others.  I hope that through the word I have studied, The Word might be imparted to you.  I pray that the hope I have received and gets me through my day, might somehow get you through your day.  I’d like to think that some of you might just need a little bit of what I got!

And so it is with people and community and sharing and blogs.  We need each other.  We are the bride of Christ, part of His Church, preparing His people to be ready for His coming.  We need each other to lean on, to learn from, to discipline, to build up, to trust, and to grow.  If you give me a little bit of the hope you receive from God and I share a little bit of my hope, we have more hope then when we started.

rais up a holy passion

If Jen shares a bit of her passion with us, and we share a bit of our passion with each other then we have more Holy Passion then we had before.  Its God’s economy and if that means I call Jen Hatmaker a friend(or my best friend) and my husband wonders why he has never met this good friend of mine then so be it!  I have more passion, more hope and more life because of the people that dare enough to actually put their dirty laundry and desperate struggles out for us all to see.

Blessed.
