My dad is amazing. Rarely 🙂 does he behave badly…mostly he is my dad. He loves me, accepts me, adores me, helps me, corrects me, receives me (even in my misbehavior). My dad knows how to be a dad.
Some don’t. Some dad’s are broken and hurt and don’t have the capacity to be a dad. They just don’t. They can create a child but they don’t have the wiring to be a daddy. We could say the same thing about some moms, I’m an equal opportunity justice seeker! However, I know a handful of men that fall into this category and sadly enough it strikes very close to home. I have story after story of dad’s behaving badly but I’m not at liberty to share with you others stories.
But I can share with you the wisdom you can impart to the children of these men. Direct them to Jesus. Show them God the Father. This is the wisdom of the word of God and it is for young children or old children. It is for orphans with no parents or children with non-present ones. It is for all of us, for one time or another in your life. Remember this.
A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God, whose dwelling is holy. Psalm 68:5
I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you John 14:18
Our God promises in Genesis 17:7 I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.
Children left behind with fearful hearts, say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you. Isaiah 35:4
Dear child Come near to God and he will come near to you. James 4:8a
You, dear one, have a calling on your life. Your worth is not dependent on anyones opinion or actions toward you. You are fearfully and wonderfully made by your Father in Heaven. You are His child, a daughter or son of the most High King! You are of royal lineage and you are valuable. Your value comes from the One and Only Living God. It comes from the only FATHER you will ever truly need. God defines you. He made you. Seek God as your Father, he will set your path straight and turn your mourning into dancing.
Dance my son dance!
