I will observe Your word

There once was a man named Noah who was asked to build an ark in the middle of a desert where there had been no rain for many many years.  God called Noah to such a great task because God knew Noah’s heart and He knew Noah would follow him.  Noah feared God and not man.

What if Noah was motivated by the fear of man?   He would have heard the snide remarks of the people and would have begun to get self conscious and would have shrunk away from the great calling on his life and today we would only have sea animals and those that could fly for 40 days straight!  Noah was moved by the fear of God. He wanted to please God and obey His commands.

How shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed and keeping watch on himself according to Your word conforming his life to it. Psalm 119:9

The beginning of wisdom is the fear of God and the fear of God comes from knowing him and conforming your life to His.  The Fear of God is the fertile soil where wisdom grows.  God’s word does not ALONE transform ones heart, heeding it and keeping watch of it and having a constant regard to it is what does the work.  God’s word ought be very much the subject of our thoughts.

I will meditate on Your precepts and have respect to Your ways, the paths of life marked out by your law.  Psalm 119:15

Please don’t get caught up in the ‘law’, nor live a life so full of grace that anything goes.  Life a life worthy of the calling you have been called.  To be a Christ follower.  To love God with all your heart mind and soul.  And to love your neighbor as yourself.  In order to do this, we must meditate on God’s word and follow His precepts.

Those that meditate in God’s word, and delight in it are in no great danger of forgetting it.  That which we have laid upon our hearts and upon which we have meditated ceaselessly will never be forgotten.

Deal bountifully with Your servant, that I may live; and I will observe Your word [HEARING, RECEIVING, LOVING, and OBEYING it].  Psalm 119:17

Think about what that would do to your life.  Reading, meditating and obeying the word would raise the depressed to life and health again.  When God’s word is written in your heart, duty(obedience) is delightful. And we know that there are blessings to those that are obedient.  The law is never considered a curse, it is a gift from God. Heeding the word of God leads to a godly lifestyle.  Ignoring the word of God leads to a godless rut.

Which would you prefer?  Which will you seek?

As for me?  I will observe God’s word.  I will hear, receive, love and obey it.  And it is there that the Fear of the Lord is found and it is there that Wisdom grows.
